Mission
The Jane Goodall
Institute advances
the power of
individuals to take
informed and
compassionate action
to improve the
environment for all
living things.
The objectives of the Institute are to:
-
Increase primate habitat conservation
-
Increase awareness of, support for and training in issues related to our relationship with each other, the environment and other animals (leading to behavior change)
-
Expand non-invasive research programs on chimpanzees and other primates
-
Promote activities that ensure the well-being of chimpanzees, other primates and animal welfare activities in general
History
The Jane Goodall Institute for Wildlife Research, Education and Conservation, a tax-exempt/non-profit, was founded in California in 1977 by Jane Goodall and Genevieve, Princess di San Faustino. Initially, day-to-day operation of the Institute was handled by board members and other volunteers working out of their homes. In the early 1980s JGI moved to the San Francisco offices of the California Academy of Sciences, where it functioned essentially as a USA/Africa "communication link" and as a repository for files.
To keep pace with Jane's increased public visibility, professional status, and interests, the Institute office soon moved to the area Jane always thought it should be: Washington, DC. The JGI-USA staff is fortunate to have a steady stream of volunteers and interns enthusiastically and capably assisting.

Become a Chimpanzee Guardian, or give a Guardianship as a gift, and support the chimpanzees at JGI’s Tchimpounga Sanctuary in the Republic of Congo. You or your gift recipient will receive a limited-edition plush chimpanzee, the Chimp Guardian newsletter, an individualized Chimp Guardian certificate, a JGI decal and more. Your contribution will help us to provide food, medical care and a supportive environment for the nearly 140 rescued chimpanzees in our sanctuary.

Do you have
a timeshare
that you no
longer want?
Why not turn
it into a
gift for JGI! Many people own timeshares that they no longer want, and are stuck paying annual fees for something they no longer use. Disposing of a timeshare is a frustrating and difficult process, often resulting in expensive up-front fees paid to agents that too rarely seem to find a buyer at any price. If you have a timeshare that you no longer want, we have good news! By special arrangement, JGI is partnering with Donate for a Cause (www.donateforacause.org), a specialized charity that will accept and then sell timeshares, giving the net proceeds to JGI. Donate for a Cause is able to accept most (but not all) timeshare gifts. Once you provide some simple, basic information, they will evaluate the property within a few weeks. They’ll do all the legwork and there is no cost to you! Best of all, the proceeds of the sale will benefit JGI and you will be eligible for an income tax deduction for your gift. It truly is a win-win! If you are interested in turning your unwanted timeshare into a gift for JGI, simply click the following link http://donateforacause.org/timesharedonation/charity/jgi/ and complete the basic information about your timeshare. If you prefer to apply using a paper application, or have any other questions, please call or email Jessica Lindenfelser at 703-682-9292 or jlindenfelser@janegoodall.org. |
